The most important thing that I have learned about Global Business so far is that it is necessary but has its challenges. Global Business lifts countries out of poverty and builds trust between countries. It balances the power scales by having countries relying on each other. The challenges are that each country has differences in work culture. A business in the United States would look different than a business in Spain through the work environment, work hours, morals, goals, and much more. One difference that has been sticking out to me is restaurants. A restaurant in Texas usually makes you wait to be seated while a restaurant in Rome has waiters with menus flagging you down. I feel that Texas businesses let you come to them while businesses abroad go to you and encourage you to take a look at what they have. A story I have from Rome, is that I learned a lot of what not to do this weekend. In Rome we stayed in a hostel that provided lockers but it was up to us to get a lock. I had no problem getting a lock but I did have a problem keeping track of the keys. On my last night, I locked my keys inside the locker. I realized this thirty minutes before my taxi would arrive to take me to the airport. I ran to the elevator in my pjs as everything I brought was inside the locker. The elevator was busy, so I flew down the stairs and ran to the office in search of help. Luckily, they had metal cutters. I would like to think that they keep them on hand because I’m not the only one to have made this embarrassing mistake. I have truly never been more scared of an outcome that I thankfully was blessed not to face. Because of events like this it’s important to find your people. It’s easy to connect with my peers on this trip as we are all in the same boat. We are all excited to see new places but nervous to be away from home. I have truly gotten to connect closely with a few girls on my trip that make the trip so much better. These friendships make me feel less alone. Some of these girls would even rescue you in the hostel shower when you forgot to bring in a towel.
