Before traveling to Barcelona, I didn’t have many expectations. I came into this study abroad program with an open mind and excitement to learn about the culture and history of Barcelona. These past few days have been a huge adjustment for me, however, I’m looking forward to spending the next few weeks exploring and trying new food. Luckily, I am surrounded by good people and the Aggie community is evident no matter how far you travel.
So far, I’ve observed several cultural differences between the United States and Spain. One of them is that meals occur at a later time. For instance, Spaniards eat lunch at 2 PM and dinner at 9 or 10 PM with a small snack in between. Additionally, meals are a time for people to socialize and enjoy food. On one of our first few days here, we had a tapas tour that took 3 hours, unlike restaurants in the United States, where they try to get clients in and out as quickly as possible.
