I put “First” in quotes in the title of this blog post because, although I have been to Paris a couple of times with my family, being in this internship program has allowed me to experience the real Paris. I have been using the Metro to make my commute to work, I have experienced the work culture here, and I have been able to take strolls in the beautiful parks on the weekends.
My first impression of the company I am interning for, kShuttle, was that it was kind of intimidating. This company is a software company that creates customized applications for each of its clients to help them with their data storage and create reports revolving around their environmental impacts, among other subjects. Although I am just doing the marketing for them, I had no idea if I had the skills to contribute to this team. Turns out, with the education I have received thus far, I was perfectly fine! Everyone at the company has been super supportive in helping me find my way here. I have 3 amazing supervisors that are happy to answer any of my questions.
Something that shocked me about the work culture here is that it’s not all about working hard and playing hard. People here do the work they need to get done, and it does not feel stressful. Our lunch breaks are up to 2 hours long! Even the CEO stopped by my office on one Friday and told me that I could leave over an hour early on Fridays so that I can explore the city.
I really have enjoyed every moment here, and I am sad to be at the halfway point of the program. I hope all continues well, and I will talk to you all again soon!
