We first arrived in London going straight to Oxford on our first day. Immediately, I could sense all the history that is behind this continent. Oxford is one of the oldest colleges and dates back as early as 1096. As we explored London, we were constantly being fed with facts of their history, tradition, and beautiful architecture all around the city. When we visited parliament, I was baffled at their keeping of tradition with actions that are not needed anymore. For example, the tradition of the black rod where someone knocks on the door to be let in and start the session continues. Even though it is not a necessity, they like to keep the tradition they have done for hundreds of years.
Something I have noticed about London is that it is very similar to New York City. However, there is a sense of ease and calmness to the city that NYC does not have. The tube was extremely easy to use and I enjoyed being able to go just about anywhere through the tube. The people in London are also just as friendly. They seem to be used to people all over the world and is truly a mixing pot of various cultures. There have been many occurrences where we end up in conversations with locals who are always curious why there is a group of 80 students walking around their city.
So far, I have thoroughly enjoyed the places we have visited in London. Although everyday is packed with things to do, it has been very beneficial to see many of what London has to offer both professionally and culturally. Everyone on the trip has been a joy to be around and we are already having a great time getting to know each other.
