Howdy y’all. By the end of this trip, I’ll have visited three different countries and experienced cultures vastly different from the cultures of Texas. Being in a foreign country is an experience that is not easy, but it teaches you how to adapt and adjust to your situation. We will learn so much on this trip, from how business is conducted, to how people communicated and lived their lives. Taking a step back and absorbing the environment will allow me to gain a deeper understanding of the way of live in Malta and Italy.
The first stop of our trip was Malta, where we stayed in a hotel in Gzira. Upon first impression, the city seemed busy, crowded, and yet seamless. Everyone had a purpose and though there was no uniformity, everything fell into place. We found out that Malta is known for its relaxed laws on Cryptocurrency, lack of fresh water, 365 churches in this small island, and that there are more cars than people! Believe me when I say, when I got charged 5 Euro for a bottle of water, I was astounded! The culture in Malta was a very family oriented one. Everyone was very religious and friendly.
Next stop was Sicily. A whole different country and a whole different way of transportation for me to experience. I have never ridden on a Ferry till I left Malta for Sicily. Our first stop in Sicily was in a small town called Marzamemi. This seaside village showed me how the these small towns live. Marzamemi was different from America, in the sense that it was so old and tight knit. Tee art and architecture was incredible and it makes you admire the people that built it 1000 plus years ago. I am excited to see where the rest of this trip takes me and what I get to see and learn!
