Hello! My name is Sarah and I just got home from my trip to Europe. Last month I was a part of the Europe Marketing Study Abroad 2024 trip. Today, I will be talking about my first impressions of the trip, the cultural differences I saw, and what I hoped to gain from this experience.
When I first got to Europe, we landed in London. I was surprised by how many people there were! I immediately had to get used to walking on the left side of the road. We visited Parliament where I learned that the United Kingdom operates as a monarchy. I compared this to America, where we operate as a democracy. I also noticed that the British spell words that usually end in “our” rather than “or.” For example, they spell “color” like “colour.” We even had the opportunity to visit European businesses like Chelsea Football Club. An obvious cultural difference is that American football is not the same as European football. Lastly, In the United Kingdom, they use the imperial system whereas in America we use the metric system.
After my first week, I was thrilled for the rest of the trip. I was hopeful that visiting and listening to European businesses we visited will create a learning opportunity to aid in achieving my goal of becoming an accomplished marketing strategist. I hoped to learn how to lead advertising campaigns, create media, and develop new products for a global corporation. I was optimistic that being able to study abroad and meet peers attending this trip would help develop connections so that I could give back to my community and be a role model for future generations. I knew that exploring different areas of the world would create a way to gain knowledge of unique societies and make connections that I could use in my career to achieve my professional goals.
