Howdy! I’m Nixon, and I am in my first few weeks in Vienna where I am about to start my semester exchange at Wirtschaftsuniversitat, or more commonly known as WU. I have arrived about a month and half before the actual semester starts so I have plenty of time to acclimate myself. WU has one of the most interesting campuses I have ever seen and many famous architects designed the buildings! WU is great about facilitating meeting other exchange students and I am a part of their pre semester program. For my first two weeks in Austria, I have a German language class for three hours in the morning, and in the afternoon I go on excursions with other students and a WU student leader. I was nervous to have such a long German class every morning, but it has been one of the most fun classes I have taken. The professor cares deeply for helping acclimate us to life in Vienna, and focuses on teaching us German that we will use in everyday interactions. She even took us on a field trip to the grocery store to show us how to order at the deli counter! I have also had the opportunity to tour the United Nations in Vienna, the Parliament, go on day trips to Graz and Retz, and more other fun things! I had never been to Austria before and adjusting to the way of life here seemed intimidating at first but in just a few weeks I feel right at home, just remember to keep right on the escalator!
