It’s been a week since I’ve been abroad, and we have spent most of our time in London, England. I had been to London before this trip, but I loved having the opportunity to go again and see new sights! The business program has been amazing so far, and all of the companies we have visited have been very interesting. I have loved meeting other Texas A&M students while on this trip, they definitely make the adjustment to a new country easier. I would say the biggest difference between the UK and the US is the fact that they drive on the left side of the road. It was pretty difficult to adjust to that. Looking right, instead of left, when crossing the street, and walking on the left side of stairs. Other than this, I didn’t feel like there were major differences. When conducting my interview of a local, it was refreshing to hear that many English people think of Americans as open and kind. I heard this a lot while in the UK. Locals in general over there tend to see us all as very friendly people. I have also noticed that when walking on the sidewalks and in parks, people tend to let the dogs roam freely. This is different from the US because it is typically required to have your dog leashed when in public places. Other than this I also think it is interesting how we do not usually tip the waiters after the serve us, where as in the US we do tip. I think this is because waiters in Europe make a decent mage, while US waiters do not. Overall, my time abroad has been very fruitful and I have loved experiencing the UK with my peers! I look forward to continuing my experience and gaining a new perspective on the world in new countries over the next month!
