I am so excited to be in Strasbourg for the France Business program! Although I have only been here for a few days, I feel like I have experienced and done so much already. This is my first time visiting Europe, so I am really looking forward to these next few weeks.
On Saturday morning, we arrived at the Frankfurt airport in Germany. I was immediately faced with a culture shock when ordering breakfast, as the cashier only spoke German and I only spoke English. Thankfully, I was still able to order, and I had an amazing croissant to start off the trip. From the airport, we took a bus to France, and this bus ride had amazing views of Germany’s nature. I was very surprised at how close Strasbourg actually is to Germany. Since we have been here, we have been able to take the tram over to Germany for dinner and make it home soon after.
Over the past few days, I have gotten to learn about the rich history of the city, and one big thing I have learned is that Strasbourg has switched between being a German city and a French city many times in the past centuries. This is very apparent by the food and architecture across the city. Many people here speak both French and German because of this close tie as well.
Strasbourg is such a walkable city, which is very different from places I have lived in before. I have really enjoyed being able to walk everywhere and explore all of the new sights by foot. Additionally, the weather has been beautiful! Everyday so far, we have had highs around 70 degrees and lows near 60 degrees. This is very different from a summer in Texas, so I am very grateful. I can not wait for these next few weeks in France!
