The week was the second week of our winter mester study abroad program. We spent one week in Athens, Greece. Then the second week in Rome, Italy. This was my first time in Italy, and I could not have had a better experience! When we first got there we checked into a hotel super close to the Colosseum and really close to the center of the city. We spent our first full day there touring the city and getting to see so many cool sites and historical places. We got to go into the colosseum and tour the inside. We also got to see the Capitoline Hill which had huge statues of Zeus and Marcus Aurelius. One of my favorite places from the entire trip was the Vatican museum and the Saint Peter’s church. It was the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Every floor to ceiling had the smallest amount of detail in every piece of artwork. When we got to the church, I loved the nativity scene they had and was able to take the time to pray at the pews. One thing that surprised me about Italy was the amount of people who spoke English so it was very helpful. I enjoyed the food in Italy more than Greece because I love Italian food more than Greek food. We also spent one night at a karaoke place which was so fun because almost everyone there was from America and also studying abroad. Our professor set up scavenger hunts for us around the city which we’re so fun and made a great opportunity to see more sites. Overall it was a great study abroad trip and j can’t wait to go back!
